Aloha Members & Friend of the Ala Wai K-9 Playground Association

We are pleased to announce that the Department of Parks & Recreation have sent us a letter to consider our proposal location adjacent to the Community Gardens near the Ala Wai Neighborhood Park running down to the where the Department of Design & Construction have their chain link fence.

The Ala Wai K-9 Association would like to thank all of you who wrote letters to all of our officials asking for this consideration. It took some time to get an answer but each and every one of you who wrote made a difference. We are all so grateful, especially our PUPS!

We are at this time getting estimates for the cost of this off-leash temporary site. The DPR has asked us to use the standard materials for this site.

The following will need to be submitted for review:

  1. Detailed construction plans signed by a licensed architect or engineer.
  2. The name of the licensed construction company or licensed individual who will be responsible for the implementation of the construction.
  3. Level of funding we have available to complete this project.  Level of maintenance & site monitoring our organization is willing to provide.

Upon approval of the construction plans the following is required:

  1. Building permit.
  2. State Department of Health Permit for water run-off concerns.
  3. Special District Permit
  4. Special Management Area Use Permit.
  5. Approval of site by State's Disability & Communication Access Board as being accessible to people with disabilities.
  6. Approval of the Honolulu City Council

Our first estimate was $25,000.  We are in the process of getting two more estimates.  The Association is holding $10,000 at this time.  You can see we need to get memberships, sponsors  and donations!  If you can help or know some one who can, please don't be shy!  We need HELP!!

Mahalo for all your support,

Sandy Edrich, Vice President
Ala Wai K-9 Playground Association

P.S. Another source of income is our up coming "HOWL'OWEEN BASH' 3rd annual fundraiser at the Willows on October 29, 2008.  Tickets are $35.  We need to sell tickets, donate silent auction items and we need volunteers to help with this event.
